Panga & the True Blues
Electric Guitar & Harp, Blues Band.
An Australian band playing mostly American Blues, in an exciting style, while not following the original artist or format by rote ,they are able to interpret each song in their own unique way. PANGA’S vocals can go from smooth lower register, to gravel-laced scream, depending on the mood each song requires.
His HARMONICA style is derived from, according to him, influences as varied as, Sonny Boy Williamson (2nd), Paul Butterfield, and Charlie Musselwhite.
GUITAR is played by STEVE LUCKETT from Tamborine Mountain. He has played with PANGA for a long time, and has snuck away on several occasions to pursue his own IT projects, only to rejoin the band at a later date.
Also on GUITAR is VIC HOLDER, an amazing guitarist who has played in this band for almost a year. Vic was born in Peru, and his father is from the U. so he very much brings the American influence to the band, both North and South. He has played all over Australia, fron Melbourne to far north Queensland, (via WA) and influenced the sound of many Aussie bands.
ELECTRIC BASS is looked after by TERRY EAVES from Tamborine Mountain. TERRY has decades of experience. He has been playing in various bands and genres for many years . He is not only a professional musician, he is a musical instrument salesman, and a sound consultant, on the GOLD COAST. A very handy person to have on any team of musicians.
Also playing BASS, when required (and when available!), is the legendary GOLD COAST bass player, JOHN McKINNON, who has played BASS with every good band and player in EASTERN AUSTRALIA . JOHN has the ability to fit in seamlessly with every band he plays with.
DRUMS by MAX MURPHY. … There is a debate between PANGA and MAX as to who is the oldest. MAX certainly has decades of experience on the drums, and hits ‘em as hard (or as soft) as he ever did! Not only does MAX bring experience, he also brings several complete drum kits, when he needs to.
This high-energy , hard-working Blues Band, plays from Byron to Bundaberg.
They appear regularly at the “Blues-on-Broadbeach” festival each May and have
Played the “Gympie Muster”.
The album, “SIX FEET IN THE GROUND”, is a small cross-section of their varied repertoire - the title track having words by PANGA, and music and arrangement by CHRIS HARVEY. It is released independently. It was recorded at CAMERON STREET’S “RAINBOW TROUT STUDIOS” in Brisbane. Engineered by CAMERON STREET, in association with Tom Robson and Chris Harvey, it was put down in 2006, and was then mastered by Matthew Gray, of “Matthew Gray Mastering”. COVER design and graphics are by John Pointon, of “POINTON DESIGN”.
This band prides itself on its high-energy sound, its classic blues covers, and mostly up-tempo, rocky/ bluesy standards.
Along with their new album, they also market the “LIVE AT THE OX” album from 1999, and have T-shirts and Tank-tops for ladies and men, carrying name and logo in most popular sizes, and baseball caps in black, white and hot pink .
